Overview[]
- "Your lightsabers will make a fine addition to my collection."
- — General Grievous
General Grievous can be a menace to behold. Grievous possesses a large health pool and health regeneration. His lightsabers were stolen from the Jedi he has slain, and their damage can be increased with a Star Card. Grievous can also inflict more damage from behind than some of the other lightsaber wielders. However, he is the least capable lightsaber hero when it comes to blocking enemy blaster fire, as it will drain his stamina greatly. While taking on large groups of enemies can be risky, Grievous excels when targeting enemies individually and enemies can be knocked down or finished off when Grievous focuses on them with Thrust Surge.
General Grievous can also lead the charge with Unrelenting Advance, inspired by the iconic movement of his lightsabers in Revenge of the Sith as he begins his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Battle of Utapau. Unrelenting Advance blocks all attacks in front of him and damages enemies who are unfortunate enough to be caught in the spinning turbine of four lightsabers.
However, despite his intimidating appearance as one of the game's largest villains, General Grievous cannot always be a tank and is known to be devious. Just as seen in Revenge of the Sith, when the odds are turned against Grievous, he will be quick to escape. This can be seen in Claw Rush, where Grievous goes down on his four arms and two legs and rushes forward in a rapid motion. Claw Rush can also be used to knock down enemies. This is especially useful against enemy heroes.
Overall, Grievous requires players to be extremely agile and good at analyzing the threat at hand, which also means knowing when to fight or when to flee from combat. He demands aggression, though the player must be smart and quickly plan their attacks in the middle of battle. Getting too cocky will result in Grievous' death, and the player must know when to go on the defensive. The player must alsobe able to predict their opponent's next move. Often times, going up against blaster heroes is lethal for Grievous, as his stamina is very quickly drained and must be conserved. When dueling lightsaber heroes, it is best to use Claw Rush when there is an opening (for example, Luke Skywalker using Saber Dash) in order to catch your opponent off guard and leave them vulnerable to attack.
Grievous' main counters are Rey, Han Solo,Chewbacca, and Leia Organa. Rey is able to keep up with Grievous due to Dash Strike (able to catch Grievous off guard, who is weak from behind since he has a high focus on the enemy in front of him) and generally high maneuverability, and Mind Trick renders Claw Rush much less efficient and very difficult to control. It can also lead to Grievous leaving himself vulnerable to attack, and may cause him to crawl off a ledge and fall to his death as well. Chewbacca's Bowcaster can easily penetrate Grievous' already feeble block when aiming (which gives his shots an explosive property) and Furious Bowcaster. Chewbacca's other two abilities, Shock Grenade and Charge Slam, immobilize Grievous, who is highly reliant on his abilities and agility. Han Solo's Detonite Charge is effective at bypassing Unrelenting Advance's damage deflector, and Shoulder Charge can turn the tables on Grievous while using Thrust Surge if timed extremely well. Sharpshooter can drain Grievous' stamina bar in mere seconds. Leia Organa is by far Grievous' deadliest foe, as her ability Rapid Fire can, similar to Han Solo's Sharpshooter, melt through Grievous' stamina, and her Thermal Detonators can help punch through Grievous' health.
Another thing to note, Claw Rush is immediately cancelled out when going over any ledge, no matter how short it is, which can be exploited to skip the rising animation; said animation renders Grievous vulnerable.

So, all enemies who were hit by Claw Rush in the first ~0.5 sec after ability was activated can be hit again in the very end of crawling animation or upon animation of Grievous' rising.

Trivia[]
- General Grievous is voiced by Matthew Wood, who previously voiced General Grievous in Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars as well as in the original Star Wars: Battlefront II.
- Most of Grievous's emotes and quotes are from Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars. Furthermore, General Grievous was the first hero with more than four emotes, with a total of five.
- His cough emote has 4 different coughs.
- General Grievous's character model had actually been discovered in the game's files and leaked by dataminers multiple times prior to his official announcement. Additionally, some of his animations, abilities, and emotes were also datamined prior to their official announcements.
- Upon release, voice lines were also datamined and leaked that hint towards two potential new heroes in the future: Padmé Amidala and Ahsoka Tano. However, they were never added to the game and with the August 26th Patch the live support for the game officially ended.
- These voice lines included: "Tano, so it is to be a rematch then!" and "Senator Amidala, I presume."
- Although General Grievous can block Force powers and deflect blaster bolts in the game, he is not a Force-user in the canon.
- Also, he is the only saber user in the game without Force-sensitivity. The closest is the Commando Droid, because of the vibrosword.
- According to Jay "Charlemagne" Ingram, Grievous took 8 months to create.
- Grievous has the least amount of saber attacks animations amongst other saber heroes. Only 4 for simple strikes and one for closing attack.
