  • Hey United, just wanted to let you know about a message I sent on the Discord staff channel that I'd like your thoughts on. Reply to it when you have the chance! Thanks.

  • Hey Snakes,

It was a fair bit ago now (what with the Christmas holidays and all) but last year, Lamosq and I had a discussion on modifications to the Hero pages. Specifically, the abilities section. As it is now, detailed descriptions of the abilities can be found in the Overview section on some pages and this is actually not what this section is for.

We'd like to move these descriptions into the abilities section in a dedicated "Details" tab or something of the sort. I've trialled a similar draft on my sandbox page in the Effects section but understand that the tab is actually for status effects. I wanted to check to see if you could create a "Details" tab under the "In-game description" tab that would fill this role.

I've also modified the Health and Movement section on the page and wanted to see what you thought of the added tabber and title.

    Kind Regards, Eddiebox28

    • Hello. The changes seem good, I'll be sure to add to the template when I get the chance in a bit.

    • Brilliant, thanks Snakes.

    • I'd just like to clarify a few things regarding the proposed changes to the hero pages that I may have initially misunderstood.

Going over what each ability does is one of the main purposes of the Overview section, so for the large part those should stay in their current positions. The Overview section of the Anakin Skywalker page is a good example. A visitor should be able to get a sense of the whole hero by just reading the Overview section; subsequent sections ultimately build-off of that understanding and provide extra information (i.e. stats and numbers) if the visitor chooses to continue reading the article.

With that, my original understanding of the "Details" section (which upon further thought I think would be better named "Notes") was to clarify some aspects of the ability that cannot be expressed in the stats and may be too specific/technical for the Overview section. For example, for Darth Vader's Choke ability, a Notes section would be great place to point out that the player can actually direct where Vader drops the Force-choked enemies and that he is immune to most damage while he does this. And just like the Overwatch Gamepedia, I think these notes would be best expressed in bullets and kept rather concise.

      How does that sound?

    • Also, I use "aspects that may be too specific/technical" loosely; I wouldn't overthink that. Basically, anything about the ability that was not expressed by all the other parameters such as "Damage", "Effect", and "Ability Duration." It's ok if the Notes parameter repeats things mentioned in the Overview section.

  • Hey, whenever you find the time I was wondering if you could try to find the amount of each type of unit allowed on the battlefield (Enforcer, hero, etc.) in the game files for each mode and each map.

We have an "Available units" section on some pages but I'd like to nail those values down.

Again, whenever you have the time. IRL always goes first. Given that, I hope IRL's treating you well.

    All the best. Lamosq

  • TEO posted some proposals on the staff-only channel on the wiki Discord, would you mind providing some of your input? Thanks.

  • Hey, do you think you would be able to find the map rotation of various modes in the game files? That information would be really neat to have on the game mode pages. Let me know if you find anything. Thanks.

      Loading editor
    • I'll try to find it, but I think map rotation stuff is based on serverside stuff. Won't stop from looking though.

    • Thanks. Also, thank you for making the Damage per Second page. Very helpful in understanding how the value is arrived at. The equation wasn't as complicated as I thought, and in hindsight is obvious. The page explains it well.

    • Unfortunately it was as I thought, the map rotation is handled server-side by DICE, so it can't be found in the files. For what it's worth though, I did find the current rotation for Galactic Assault online: https://i.redd.it/mnbo4xmpz7131.png. As for the other modes, I'm not too sure what their rotations are but I can certainly check around and try to piece it together.

And the Damage per Second page was not a problem, I'm happy you like it. Also have to give credit to AbsoluteDuck for adding and helping simplify it.

    • Oh okay. I'll add that order to the Galactic Assault page. I'll pay attention to the game mode rotation when I play in-game of the other modes as well, though Starfighter Assault may be difficult to get in a lobby of. Thanks anyway.

    • Thank you so much! We actually do have an issue with templates actually. You see, in our templates for displaying data, it has text built into it, which let's us put in values of data. But when we put in a modifier, it messes the text up, which can be seen with 'Melee Attacks' in the example below. It should be like the one above it.

      Damage 130
      160 (Rear)
SWBFII Darth Vader Ability Focused Rage Icon Focused Rage ability
      Damage increased to
      145
      175 (Rear)
      Melee Attacks 10
SWBFII Darth Vader Ability Focused Rage Icon Focused Rage ability
      Possible swings increased to 20
      swings possible

We've actually discussed this with Lamosq here. Was hoping you could help us with this?

    • Sure I can help with this! I think I understand why this is happening. In your example that you posted here, the contents of the {{Modified}} basically get added to the template before the built-in text because it is technically part of the "melee" variable, and the effect comes after the "melee" variable, therefore it separates the two.

I did some tests to try and wrap my head around it. You can see my final test on my sandbox page here. The issue is this part: {{!}} {{{melee<includeonly>|</includeonly>}}} swings possible

unlike damagemod in the Lightsaber Data template, the melee bit does not have its own separate variable for the modifier. I suggest you make one for it, as I did in Template:Lightsaber_Data_test_3.

Hopefully this helps! Let me know if you need more help with this, or anything else. (I see you guys have a Wiki Discord, but there is no "connect" button on the widget. Is it on purpose that this is disabled?)

  • Hey United,

Diligent work as ever. I'm glad you're starting to implement the Modifiers. They look really good. In regards to that, I see you have, at least for the Boba Fett/DICE stats, to simply put Template:Modifier in the same parameter as the actual thing it is modifying, instead of using the respective "mod" parameter (putting Template:Modifier in the damage parameter instead of damagemod parameter). It seems to be working fine, so I might just remove the mod parameters totally across all the templates and adjust the templates to follow what you're doing. How does that sound?
