"Licking its wounds from the Battle of Yavin, the Empire attacks the Rebel base in the Great Temple in hopes of acquiring data that would undermine the power of the Alliance fleet...."
— In-game description

The Great Temple is a multiplayer land map in DICE's Star Wars Battlefront II that is set on Yavin 4.

Overview[]

The entire map spans from the jungles of Yavin 4 to the heart of the Rebel base itself, the Massassi outpost where the Rebels were based during the events of Rogue One and A New Hope; in fact, the Galactic Assault and Co-Op versions of the map take place right after the events of the latter. By the time of the Battle of Yavin, the Rebels have transformed the vast amount of temples on the planet into bases, which the Imperials are actively seeking to capture and destroy.

The hangar area is the most open of the entire map, with flat land for vehicles like the AT-ST and map exclusive U-Wing to roam around freely. Combat in this portion of the map spans all ranges.

Modes[]

Arcade[]

Blast[]

Blast takes in the temple itself, featuring the rebel base. The forest portion of Yavin 4 is not accessible.

Co-Op[]

Seeking revenge for the destruction of the Death Star, the Imperials mount an attack on the Rebel base on Yavin 4. They must drive the defending Rebels back into the temple itself.

Galactic Assault[]

Yavin 4 The Great Temple - Andrew Hamilton (1)

Deep within the Great Temple on Yavin 4 is a secret of key importance to the survival of the Rebellion. But Imperial ground forces have arrived![1] On this map, the Galactic Empire are the attackers and the Rebel Alliance are the defenders.

The Empire's objective during phase one is to sabotage the East, Courtyard and West Turbolasers in order to neutralize the Rebel air defences. Next, they are tasked with securing both the Control Station and Forest Camp to complete phase two. In phase three, the Empire seeks to override the East and West Gate Controls. Subsequently, the final phase sees the Empire overriding the Briefing Room and Command Center of the Great Temple before the Rebels have time to escape.

Heroes vs. Villains[]

The playable portion of the map in this game mode is not the iconic temple, but the area behind it (this is Phase 1 of Galactic Assault and the Imperials' spawn location, and phase 1 of Co-Op). However, the opening cutscene is set in the temple itself.

In The Age of Rebellion Update the playable area was reworked to be inside the temple itself, i.e. the Blast/Arcade version of the map (similarly to Ajan Kloss: The Klosslands). A majority of fights take place at the hangar area outside the temple.

Strike[]

"The Rebels have determined that a thorough scan of Yavin 4's databases would reveal the location of their new secret base. Unable to let this information fall into enemy hands, the Rebels launch a mission with hopes of retrieving this data...."
— In-game description

The Rebel Alliance must retrieve the Data Disc and deliver it to their extraction point. The Galactic Empire must defend the disc until the Rebel reinforcement count runs out.
